The Central Florida Knights had never won more than 10 games in school history -- or won a bowl game. It's time to update those history books, because with their 10-6 win over Georgia in the Liberty Bowl, George O'Leary's team finished the 2010 season 11-3.On the opposite side of the field, there was an equally opposite outcome. Georgia (6-7) finished with a losing record for the first time since 1995. And while O'Leary is riding high, Mark Richt may just lose his job after this one.
The game was won with defense.
Since getting A.J. Green back from suspension, Georgia was piling up the points. Its lowest output in that span was 27; five times the Bulldogs scored more than 40. The offense entered the game averaging nearly 400 yards per contest.
Friday, UCF held Georgia to 279 total yards, forced two turnovers and allowed merely two field goals. No touchdowns. The Bulldogs averaged just 2.5 yards per rushing attempt.
Georgia nearly equaled the Knights' defensive effort, but an early fourth-quarter drive by UCF was the difference. The Knights went 65 yards in 5:40 and scored on a 10-yard Latavius Murray run -- it gave UCF a 10-6 lead which would end up being the final score.
Murray was the biggest offensive producer of the game, gaining 104 yards on 18 carries and scoring the lone touchdown. Green still managed a good stat-line for Georgia with eight catches and 77 yards, but it wasn't enough.
