For a short while on Tuesday night, we were all left to dream about the possibilities about Suzyn Waldman shrieking about Andy Pettitte's return on a warm early summer day at Yankee Stadium. The NY Daily News was reporting that Andy Pettitte wouldn't be starting the season with the Yankees, but that a midseason return — following in the footsteps of his buddy, Rahjah — was still possible.
Yankees GM Brian Cashman, however, quickly told a few other beat reporters that he had made a bad choice of words with the NYDN and that "I'm retired, but not 100 percent retired" was still Pettitte's status quo. Goodness gracious. MLB Trade Rumors
2. ESPN announced the first part of its Sunday night baseball schedule and, no worries, the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees will play each other twice in the first seven weeks. But there's some baby steps in there, too. The crew is actually venturing out West twice to see the defending World Series champion San Francisco Giants (on April 3 in Los Angeles and against the Mets in San Francisco on July 10) and it's also going to feature the Cincinnati Reds (April 24, at St. Louis and May 29, at Atlanta). 4. After writing about Vernon Wells' changed outlook on his huge contract, I received a nice email from a Stewie named Coleman who has seen the great work of the Toronto Blue Jays center fielder up close.
Mr. Wells has done countless wonderful things in his community, and has directly touched my family's life as well as many others. He spent an entire day with my mom's high school physics class, and all she did was call up his wife on the hope that he might come and teach "projectile motion." ... Also, my sister went to a small private school in Colleyville, TX, and every year Vernon Wells buys all the kids in the graduating class laptops before they go off to college. I think thats a better subject than LeBron takin his talents to South Beach, don't you?
