Texas A&M AD insists something was foul in Lubbock last weekend

Texas A&M athletic� director Bill Byrne knows manure when he smells it, and no one is going to tell him otherwise.

In the latest chapter of what happened to the Texas A&M buses during last weekend's trip to Texas Tech, Byrne defended his tweet from last Saturday that claimed someone had vandalized the buses.

Texas Tech disputed Byrne's tweet, stating the university did an investigation into the matter and found the buses had been vandalized with shoe polish and that what Byrne thought was excrement was actually just fish bait.

Here is the entirety of the Texas Tech statement:

Many of you are aware of a tweet from a Texas A&M official that their team buses were spray painted and animal feces were spread inside of the buses�early Saturday morning. �The clear implication of the tweet was that this was the responsibility of Texas Tech fans or students. Texas Tech has conducted an investigation regarding this allegation, and has discovered the following:

? The buses were not spray painted. Instead, washable shoe polish was used on the windows of one of the buses.

? No feces were found either in or on the buses. �Fish bait was dropped onto the floor of one of the buses.

? The alleged "vandalism" was cleaned by the bus drivers and Holiday Inn staff before it was seen by the A&M official who tweeted the information.

While incidents such as the ones alleged are inappropriate and strongly condemned by Texas Tech, it is no less wrong to condemn the entirety of our university, students and supporters by posting inaccurate information on the internet for the purpose of sensationalizing the actions of one or a very few. We are disturbed by the careless use of social media to share these inaccuracies.

Well, Byrne didn't take too kindly to subtly being called a fibber, so he made sure to clarify his position in his weekly blog that was published on the Texas A&M athletics website Wednesday:

Finally, I don't feel the need to defend my comments about the incident in Lubbock because whatever was thrown on that bus sure stunk and I know vandalism when I see it. I took personal offense just as I would have if someone did this to my own car.� This was a first in my 28 years as an Athletic Director ? and hopefully a last.

Byrne also took some shots at the Texas Tech crowd for booing injured A&M players.

Since there were no pictures (at least none that have been published) and no police report regarding the vandalism, we might never know exactly what happened. But it's probably good that with A&M leaving to the SEC, these teams won't be seeing each other for awhile.
