Now that he's had a few days to calm down after the Dallas Cowboys' last-minute loss to the New England Patriots, Jerry Jones is reconsidering his scathing indictment of head coach Jason Garrett.
As Yahoo! Sports' Mike Silver reported, Jones was critical of Garrett's play-calling late in Sunday's game, when Dallas ran the ball three times while up three points against Tom Brady and the Pats. The owner suggested Garrett should have "gone for the kill" and insinuated that he had no confidence in Tony Romo.
Jones was calmer during a Tuesday radio interview with KLDM-FM in Dallas.
"I would say that probably if I had that to do over again, I wouldn't comment, period. I wouldn't even answer a question about it. I was asked the questions and you can always say, 'No comment.'
"But I did [comment], and I was real clear that this was a flip of the coin. That's what Jason frankly is paid to do, is make those decisions, and there's no one that I'd rather have make the decisions regarding our football team right now on an offensive play call."
You'll notice he never said he changed his mind about the play-calling, only that he shouldn't have said anything about hating the decision. Jones is still hanging out Garrett to dry.
If only he had read from the manual on how to defend a member of the Dallas Cowboys in public he'd know thatthis is how it's done. Just substitute the word "coach" in place of "quarterback."
Man, that never gets old.
