Saturday’s Three Stars: Smith’s relief aids in Tampa comeback

No. 1 Star: Mike Smith, Tampa Bay Lightning

After Dwayne Roloson allowed three first period goals, Lightning head coach Guy Boucher called upon Smith at the start of the second period. Twenty one saves later, Smith had stabilized the defense, while the Lightning offense put five unanswered goals past Tim Thomas for a 5-3 come-from-behind win to tie their series 2-2.

No. 2 Star: Simon Gagne, Tampa Bay Lightning

While Smith has the defensive MVP for the Lightning, Gagne was the offensive catalyst with a goal and two assists, including the game-winner 6:54 into the third period.

No. 3 Star: Teddy Purcell, Tampa Bay Lightning

Purcell entered Game 4 with two goals in the playoffs and in a 1:03 span matched that output to spark the Tampa comeback. He had scored just once since Game 6 of the first round against Pittsburgh.

Honorable mention: Patrice Bergeron scored two of Boston's three first period goals ... Sean Bergenheim nows leads all players with nine goals ...Vincent Lecavalier won 14 of 21 faceoffs ... Dennis Seidenberg blocked a game-high seven shots ... Ryan Malone recorded an assist, finished plus-2, won both of his draws, and was a physical presence dishing out three hits.

Did you know? The Bruins lost for the first time in the postseason when scoring first. They're now 7-1. (AP)

Dishonorable mention: David Krejci struggled in the dot winning only three out of his 15 faceoffs and finished a minus-3 ... Roloson was pulled after facing nine shots ... Steve Downie was called for diving after this hit from Nathan Horton, but the Lightning forward left the game and did not return.

After the game, Boucher said Downie's "going to be day to day starting today".
