For the second straight day, a throwing error by San Francisco's starting pitcher gave the Colorado Rockies life, and for the second straight day Carlos Gonzalez made them pay.
In the eighth inning, Jonathan Sanchez fielded a sacrifice bunt attempt by Alfredo Amezaga and tossed it down the right field line allowing one run to score. Dexter Fowler followed with an RBI double to tie it. Two batters later, Gonzalez ripped a two-run single through a drawn in infield to break the tie and send the Rockies to a dramatic 5-3 victory at Coors Field.
"It was an easy out at first," Sanchez told reporters afterward. "I should have made that play I think that's why we lost. Amezaga is pretty fast and I just wanted to make sure I got him out and I threw the ball away."
After losing five of their first six to San Francisco, relinquishing their four-game division lead, Colorado leapfrogged the Giants back into first by sweeping the brief two-game set. Something tells me it won't be the last time they change positions.
