Dodgers fan Larry King joins potential ownership group

Dodgers fan Larry King joins potential ownership group

Chavez Ravine, hello! Word out of SoCal is that Larry King is the latest celebrity having his name attached to one of the ownership groups vying to buy the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Official Big League Stew reaction: Ohpleaseohpleaseohpleaseohplease let this happen.

Though King apparently wouldn't be the figurehead of Dennis Gilbert's consortium of rich folks? the talker's star presence would be expected to bring some fan cred to the bid. And unlike other names that have been bandied about ? Joe Torre, Magic Johnson, Donald Trump, Mark Cuban ? it appears that King is already willing to commit to the effort.

From ESPN Los Angeles:

Dodgers fan Larry King joins potential ownership groupKing, like Gilbert, is a frequent presence in Dodger Stadium's Dugout Club seats during home games. King also has been a frequent visitor to the team during spring training and occasionally on road trips.

The source said King's financial stake in the ownership group is comparatively small. The group's primary investors, the source said, are two high-ranking executives with Imperial Capital, a Los Angeles-based investment bank with offices in five other U.S. cities.

As many of you know, Larry King is considered something of a patron saint on this site for his commitment to the rambling and nonsensical. We don't even need to look at the group's books to give them our full endorsement. A faint promise that King's classic USA Today column might return on the virtual pages of MLB.com is good enough for us.

Anyway, here's a photo we obtained of King weighing a counter offer from current Dodgers owner Frank McCourt. (Oh, who are we kidding? It's a file photo of McCourt asking King for the name of the best divorce lawyer he ever worked with and King looking like he needs to think about it for awhile. Enjoy it anyway.)
