Though my tastebuds have never had the pleasure, people say that Stephanie Izard is one heck of a chef. She wonthe fourth season of "Top Chef" and owns one of the hottest new restaurants in the country ? Girl & the Goat ? in Chicago's West Loop neighborhood.
Izard's status as a celebrity chef in a food-obsessed city was enough to get her a spot as guest conductor of "Take Me Out To The Ballgame" at Wrigley Field on Tuesday. Her talent in the kitchen, however, didn't immediately translate to the microphone.
MLB.com andIzard's own site have the full version of Izard's rendition and she does better in some spots than others. Still, it's a pretty rough version and demonstrates how tough that gig at Wrigley can be for folks who aren't trained singers or entertainers.
The cool thing is that Izard displayed the sense of humor and perspective that have made her so popular in her rise to success. Whentweeting a picture of her name on the scoreboard, she remarked that she was "pretty sure general response was who the f is that?!" Then, after handing the microphone back to TV announcer Len Kasper, she made a remark about her unique voice not being suited to such a task.
So, all in all, a valiant try. Though we do suggest she keep her night job.
