As this Tampa Bay TV profile of Rays lefty David Price explains, he and his beloved French bulldog are nearly inseparable.
So when the Rays planned an upcoming giveaway of an action figure modeled after Price's likeness, they apparently couldn't help but include Astro, too.
As Price says in this announcement:
"Get ready to save the day on Sunday, Aug. 21 with a superhero action figure of my dog, Astro. Oh, yeah, it comes with me, too. Now that's a dynamic duo."
The Rays have shown they're not afraid to make ... creative ... choices with their promotions. Vanilla Ice concert. Replicas of Joe Maddon's glasses. Sam Fuld's cape. Free profanity from Avril Lavigne.
A superhero David Price action figure makes sense. He'll be a Cy Young candidate as long as he's in his prime. But what special powers might a French bulldog possess? Super sinuses? Let's see what these likenesses look like:
Aww, he's got a little doggie cape and everything (I wonder if it's left over from the Fuld promotion). Price looks like Price, but the image of Astro (who is named after Astro Jetson) reminds me of Mr. Bill's dog, Spot. I used to cringe whenever Spot would come with Mr. Bill on an adventure, because that mean Sluggo would always do something torturous to him and Mr. Bill.
So, kids 14-and-under, if you're among the first 10,000 who receive a David Price and Astro, please, look after the dog too.
