Demaryius Thomas knew he had scored a big touchdown in overtime against the Pittsburgh Steelers. For a brief moment, he didn't understand how big it was.
Because of the NFL's confusing, new overtime rules, Thomas thought the 80-yard touchdown pass he caught from Tim Tebow gave Denver seven points that Pittsburgh would have a chance to equal. It wasn't until he was celebrating with Champ Bailey, the team's star cornerback, that Thomas realized the game was over.

"I saw Champ [Bailey] run up to me in the tunnel, and I was like, 'What's going on?'" Thomas told Lindsay Jones of the Denver Post.
Listen to referee Ron Winter explain the overtime rules before the extra session and it's not hard to see why Thomas was confused:
Winter's explanation was correct, though his expression and tone were that of a man who wasn't as sure of himself as he might have liked. It's as if Winter had never said it out loud before and was only now realizing how dumb the new format was.

Our own MJD put it the best:"No sport or game on earth should need more than 10 words to describe how the game ends."
