DeAnthony Arnett is finally going home.
After a week of drama between Arnett and Tennessee, the former Vols receiver has decided to transfer to Michigan State to be closer to his ailing father.
Initially, Tennessee coach Derek Dooley declined to release Arnett to play at either Michigan or Michigan State and was only going to release him to the Mid-American Conference schools in the state. Tennessee had said it didn't release players to competitors or schools the Vols recruit against. However, after some one-on-one time with Arnett, Dooley decided to release him unconditionally on Tuesday.
Arnett's transfer plans started during winter break when he returned home to Saginaw, Mich., and watched as his father, who suffers from diabetes, had two surgeries - one for his heart and one to place a permanent stent in his arm for dialysis.
Arnett had 24 catches for 242 yards and two touchdowns and will be a great asset for a Michigan State team that loses B.J. Cunningham, Keshawn Martin and Keith Nichol. However, Arnett still has to petition the NCAA for a hardship waiver to play right away. If he does have to sit out a year because of NCAA transfer rules, he'll still have three years of eligibility remaining beginning in 2013.
