Ranger homers traveled 4,383 feet against Boston

As our own Steve Henson wrote on Sunday afternoon, the Texas Rangers put together a�record-setting display of power against the Boston Red Sox over the weekend.

Nelson Cruz and Ian Kinsler became the first teammates in baseball history to homer in each of their team's first three games. A majority came off of Boston's starters. The team's 11 homers gives them the early lead in the majors, just ahead of the Angels and Yankees, who each have nine. Josh Hamilton didn't even get in on the fun.

Also, as Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe pointed out, the combined true distance of all 11 homers added up to 4,383 feet ? a little over 8/10ths of a mile.

Impressive as that may seem, though, that total distance isn't out of the ordinary. The average Rangers homer in the series flew 398.5 feet, just below the major league average of 398.6 feet this season.

As you can see from the list, Cruz saved the best and longest for last, hitting an opposite-field, 447-foot homer to the second deck in right field. Chad Curtis is reportedly the only other right-handed batter to do that in Rangers Ballpark history.

Said Kinsler: "I'm thinking that ball is going to go over the bullpen and maybe hit someone in the chest and leave a little bruise. It kept going and took off and before you know it, it's in the upper deck."

Said Michael Young: "I would say that Nellie is the only guy I know capable of that kind of power to right field. Right-handed hitters just don't do that."
