No, this isn't a picture of Andy Martino.
But I can see the possible cause for confusion after reading the New York Mets beat writer's all-time classic lead to his game story about a6-1 loss to the Houston Astros on Tuesday.
Blah blah blah blah rain blah blah blah Niese blah blah Astros blah blah Mets got spanked. Blah blah, 6-1. We really don't know what else to tell you about this one. But we will try:
And that, my friends, would be a textbook example of "a cry for help."
Thing is, it's kind of amazing that Martino pulled it out of his beat-writing bag of tricks so early. That's the type of lead you expect to see after a steamy stinker in Florida at the tail end of a 10-day road trip in late August. When your season-long jail sentence is down to a month and the players you cover are already sick of seeing your mug around.
But less than three weeks into the season and with over 140 games left of waiting around the clubhouse and chumming around with the players you just marginalized?
Well, the situation with the 5-12 Mets must be even worse than we thought for Martino to come out and make such a bold (and unconventional) statement about the team he's covering.
