" join me, and together we can rule the galaxy as father and son!" (me with Eli, my 5 year old). Good morning all.
That ominous/polite message was sent via Twitter recently, along with the Darth Vader family photo on the right, by New York Mets knuckleballer R.A. Dickey.
Dickey, an admitted nerd for Star Wars (among other topics) isn't really a Sith lord who has been planning in secret on taking over the universe. He just dresses like one, on occasion. Besides, how evil could he be? Just note the adorable photo on the left of Dickey with his youngest son, Van Allen (named in part after the radiation belt that covers the Earth, no doubt). Nerrrrrrrrrrrrd!
Say, where can I get Mr. Met jammies? For myself, I mean.
Anyway, Dickey likes to dress up as Darth Vader. Hey, who doesn't? But he's impressive ... most impressive ... in that suit, which includes a mask that changes your voice to sound like James Earl Jones. "This is CNN, wookiee breath!"
Below, check out a couple of more shots of Dickey Vader:
So THAT's how he gets the knuckleball to dance. The Force! Strong with this one, it is.
I'm just not sure if that equipment (other than the glove) is approved by Major League Baseball. That's the only real empire around these parts, anyhow.
