It took almost eight years, but as of today, Ole Miss fans can officially begin to develop fresh emotional attachments to a beleaguered undergrad in an oversized cartoon suit once again: "Rebel," the Rebels' new black bear mascot, at a children's hospital in Jackson, Miss., this afternoon with what appeared to be a minimum of abject terror from the kids at the sight of a seven-foot ursine roaming the halls. Hopefully someone will alert America's foremost bear watchdog to the latest chilling threat to our nation's children.
As projected, Rebel showed up in slacks and a navy blue Ole Miss jersey, though there was no sign of the piece d' resistance of the initial mock-ups, his white fedora. I guess they have to save something for his campus debut at the spring game, on April 16.
