Tossing out the superlatives regarding Blake Griffin's first year as an active NBA player doesn't do the kid much justice. The numbers are pretty amazing, 22.5 points, 12.1 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game are quite nearly All-NBA First Team digits, and no player had us giddier in 2010-11 to dial up the old League Pass subscription every night. The Clipper forward's work was outstanding.
Better yet, in spite of comedian Norm MacDonald burning down his house late last month, Griffin still remains "good friends" with our favorite Canadian quipster who is the brother of a well-respected journalist.
Griffin was awarded the Rookie of the Year trophy on Wednesday, and the honor was clearly well-deserved. He's an astonishing talent that we're well chuffed to have the privilege to watch over the next decade or so. And while we can bore you with the typical plaudits, I doubt that any other honor BDL could throw Blake's way can match what I'm about to point out.
This summer, as the lockout drags on, and we wonder if we're going to be able to see Griffin play again in the 2011 calendar year, we'll be hosting "Blake Griffin Tuesdays," at Ball Don't Lie. Because there were so many jaw-dropping plays executed by the Clippers rookie in 2010-11, we honestly have enough fodder to wait out the lockout with one (or perhaps more) videos of the week, taken from his rookie season. And don't act like you don't want to see those again.
It's one of few reasons to look forward to the summer. Until then, congratulations, Blake.
