The Juice: Cliff Lee notches third straight shutout as Red Sox fall

Nine innings, nine items to get you going. Ladies and gentleman of the Stew, take a sip of morning Juice.

1. Rea-Lee good: Cliff Lee made it three shutouts in a row, running his scoreless streak to 32 innings in a 5-0 victory ? a two-hit masterpiece against the Red Sox ? in Philly on Tuesday night. Lee was so good, he even mystified his own catcher once or twice. Phifer has allowed one run in June and the Phillies improved to 50-30 as we hit the midway point of the season. Time flies when you're good.

2. Double salamis!: The Mets had gone 299 games without a grand slam, but then they hit two against the Tigers in a 14-3 victory. Jason Bay, who coincidentally had gone 299 games without avoiding getting crap from Mets fans, hit one of them. Carlos Beltran hit the other.

3. Brew ha-ha: The Yankees also busted out the whoopin' sticks, hammering Zack Greinke and the Brewers 12-2 in the Bronx. The damn Yankees media has been making a big deal of Greinke's failures in New York, based on four career starts in there, and because of Greinke's anxiety disorder. As if they don't have people in Wisconsin to get up all in his grill.

4. Giothermic: Emilio Bonifacio led off the game with a single, the only hit allowed by Oakland's Gio Gonzalez in a 1-0 victory at the Coliseum. Even more shocking: Gonzalez, who had most of his hometown of Miami watching the game on TV, said he has been a Marlins fan for his entire life. So he's the guy!

5. Giants in the business: The world's champions ran their winning streak to seven games by sweeping a day/night doubleheader at Wrigley Field. Scores: 13-7 and 6-3, as Ryan Vogelsong and Barry Zito did OK. As for the Cubs, at least manager Mike Quade will represent the team as a coach in next month's All-Star Game. Maybe this way, they won't have to worry about picking a player.

6. Longo just pawn in pennant race of life: The Tampa Bay Rays beat the Reds 4-3, and remain in the thick of the AL East race, but they're not going to win a playoff spot unless Evan Longoria gets his bat going ? as he happened to in the ninth with this game-ending home run:

7. Three-basing: C.J. Wilson allowed two runs over seven innings at Houston, but more awesomely he lined a triple up Tal's Hill for his first major league hit in the Texas Rangers 7-3 victory. He had been 0 for 5 at the plate.

8. Wile E. Mo!: He was out of the majors for more than two years before the Arizona Diamondbacks called him up June 21. But former prospect Wily Mo Pea made the most his opportunity in the bottom of the ninth by lining a game-ending homer against your friend Tony Sipp. In a wild one, Arizona beat Cleveland 6-4 after the Indians tied the score in the top of the ninth on Carlos Santana's homer.

9. McCanntbestopped: Atlanta's Brian McCann padded his MVP rsum with four hits, including a tie-breaking two-run single in the seventh to lead the Braves to a 5-4 victory at Seattle. Not only that, he has surpassed Thom McAn and Hoops McCann as Best McCann Ever.
